.... was Kevin's car accident.
Wow. Seems like yesterday.
My dad received a call at 4:45am from the police Chaplin. His job was to tell us that Kevin was dead and the hearse was on the way. Talk about freak out mode.
It was only God's mercy and grace that kept Kevin. However, both arms and his left leg was broken. He was in a wheelchair for six weeks and therapy was done at least four hours a day. He had some facial injuries and stitches were required.
Although this was a hard and stressful time, we had many laughs and fun times. Taking Kevin on walks (us walking and him in the wheelchair) was fun because we would freak him out by going too fast. Once Kevin's leg cast was taken off, him and I went on bike rides for him to regain strength. It was always terrible when I got tired before he did. lol. We still talk about the jokes and stories Kevin told us when drugged on his medicine. ha. And I do have to say that I miss the late night walks through the hospital. Watching homeless people fight over couches was priceless.... and sad. I also laugh at the time when we were with Matt and Marissa in the parking garage. We could see our car but could not get to it. (It was a level above us.) So Matt nicely offered his back as a step stool to get over a HUGE cement wall. All the while, we were dying laughing.
Kevin still has complications with his arms due to nerve damage. He still faces many more surgeries, but with God's help, he will make it.
I am so very thankful for God's mercy. It was only Him that kept Kevin alive. I can't be thankful enough. It was definitely an experience to change one's perspective on life and learn to trust in Jesus.

Psalm 56: 3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
